Penelope by Tatiana Blass The Photograph Gallery

Penelope is a current set up from Tatiana Blass – the identify for the exhibit is taken from Homer’s Odyssey. Penelope was Odysseus’ spouse and she or he remained trustworthy for twenty years whereas he was away at warfare. To maintain her suitors at bay, she stored herself busy for 3 years weaving a burial shroud for her father-in-regulation whereas secretly unweaving elements of it at night time. She promised she would select one when she was achieved however delayed it to stay trustworthy.

The exhibit was designed to fill the Chapel of Morumbi in São Paulo, Brazil, the place Blass lives and works. Contained in the chapel, a loom sits on the altar. One aspect has an extended purple carpet that results in the door. On the opposite aspect of the loom, the chaotic strings of tangled purple yarn proceed via the holes of the chapel partitions to the coated yard outdoors. The viewer is left to marvel if the piece is being woven or unraveled, just like the story of Penelope goes.
