Artist Patrick Wilson, who lives and works in Los Angeles, explores mid-century modernism in his boxy summary works. We’re impressed by his shade blocking mixtures, as are the Hirschhorn and the Los Angeles County Museum of Artwork, which each personal his work. Wilson is a self-described “sluggish movement motion painter,” who depends on instinct within the artistic course of. When it comes to method, he makes use of a drywall blade to tug layers of translucent and opaque coats of paint throughout the canvas to progressively construct his architectural compositions. We used Colourlovers to create palettes for 3 of his works on this week’s installment of CMYLK.
